The current lack of effective technology management is causing trams and buses to languish in heavy traffic when they need to be given priority passage to prevent gridlock. Public transport vehicle tracking systems are obsolete and the lack of effective interfaces with road traffic systems results in inefficient tram and bus priority. The quality and reliability of bus and ICT system communications and interfaces must be improved to increase public transport user benefit.
There is also a need to centralise transport network information. Rolling out ICT infrastructure that provides centralised
real-time information across the transport network will enable both private and public transport commuters to better make
real-time multi-modal decisions about their journey. This will assist in managing demand.
