The North East Link
The Victorian Government has announced it intends to build the North East Link, a new freeway that will complete the missing link in Melbourne’s metropolitan ring road. The North East Link will connect the Metropolitan Ring Road at Greensborough to the Eastern Freeway and EastLink. Infrastructure Victoria has identiļ¬ed the project as a priority in its 30-year plan.
Justiļ¬cations for the project include that it will take trucks off local streets and reduce congestion in Melbourneās northern suburbs, and that it will provide an essential north-south connection, catering for Melbourneās future growth, while linking the eastern suburbs to the northern and western suburbs and the airport.
The Eastern Transport Coalition will work with the State Government, the North East Link Authority and local governments, communities and stakeholders to understand issues around route selection, local traffic management and implications and opportunities for public transport provision.
