City of Whitehorse hosted Council’s first Active Transport Forum yesterday, an initiative aimed at making cycling and walking easier for residents in the region. One of our ETC representatives, Cr Bill Bennett, briefed attendees on the Eastern Transport Coalition’s priority asks for cycling and walking.
Cycling and walking are key modes of both transport and recreation, assisting in promoting environmental sustainability as well as our residents’ health and wellbeing.
Research shows that around 60 per cent of our residents are interested in cycling but has safety concerns that impede their willingness to participate. This has to change, and one way to do this is to construct safe and convenient off-road shared use paths.
